Where is Rookery Hall Hotel?

Rookery Hall is located in Worleston, a leafy village just five minutes from Nantwich in south Cheshire. It’s a peaceful, rural setting that feels wonderfully removed from the everyday, but still within easy reach of Crewe (the rail centre of the universe), Chester, and even Manchester or Liverpool for day trips. If you’re looking for a luxury hotel near Nantwich, this one is ideal.

Despite its quiet location, you’re never far from things to do – historic market town, Nantwich, is full of independent shops, cafés and black-and-white timber buildings, while the surrounding area is known for its walks, canals and country pubs. If you’re in the mood to stay put though, Rookery Hall offers plenty of reasons to settle in and do just that.

How to get to Rookery Hall Hotel

As I mentioned, Rookery Hall Hotel is within easy reach of Crewe train station, but you would definitely need a taxi to get you the rest of the way, as the hotel is located in a very rural area that isn’t easily reached by public transport.

Your best option is definitely to drive, and with plenty of parking on-site, it’s the most comfortable way to travel if you have a lot of luggage.

What are the rooms like at Rookery Hall?

Spode junior suite at Rookery Hall Hotel

I stayed in one of the Junior Suites, Spode, and it was justa perfect blend of elegance and comfort. The room was spacious and stylishly decorated, with a soft neutral palette, cosy textures, and a huge bed you won’t want to leave. A real surprise on arrival? It came with its own beautifully dressed Christmas tree, which instantly made the space feel festive and welcoming without being over the top.

There was a generous seating area, a well-stocked tea and coffee station (plus some festive cocktails to try!), and big windows overlooking the grounds, perfect for catching the soft morning light or watching the frost settle across the lawns.

The bathroom featured a freestanding tub, fluffy robes and plenty of space to pamper yourself after the spa. It’s the kind of room that invites you to unwind slowly, whether you’re visiting in the height of summer or mid-December like I was.

Dining at Rookery Hall: Wine dinner with La Croix de Brully

A real highlight of my stay was attending an exclusive La Croix de Brully wine dinner – a four-course seasonal menu paired with five exceptional wines from this boutique Burgundy domaine. Hosted in one of Rookery Hall’s elegant dining rooms, the event was led by expert Sommelier Clément Robert, who guided us through each wine with fascinating insights and relaxed charm.

Each dish was crafted to complement the character of the wines, from a buttery Meursault to a silky Chambolle-Musigny, and the setting couldn’t have been better: candlelight, friendly service and a lovely atmosphere. I’ll be sharing a full write-up of this special dinner soon, but it definitely added something unique to the overall experience.

If you’re considering booking a stay during one of these hosted evenings, I highly recommend it as it’s a great way to enjoy fine dining with a bit of learning and laughter mixed in.

Breakfast at Rookery Hall: Calm mornings with a view

The next morning started slowly (a necessity after the amount of wine flowing the night before). Breakfast at Rookery Hall is served in the main restaurant, where the big windows offer stunning views across the garden and woodland beyond. With the winter sun just starting to rise and a light frost on the grass, it was the kind of scene that made me want to sip my coffee a little longer.

The breakfast menu includes a full cooked breakfast, as well as other options like eggs benedict, made to order, as well as fresh fruit, pastries, yoghurts and juice. I went for the poached eggs on sourdough with a side of smoked salmon, and everything arrived beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. The service was friendly and unobtrusive too, making it easy to sit and relax in front of the lovely views.

Rookery Hall spa review: A standout for North West spa breaks

No stay here would be complete without a visit to the spa at Rookery Hall, which is housed in a restored stable block just steps from the main hotel. The spa is a real standout, certainly one of the best I’ve visited in the North West, offering a full range of facilities including an indoor pool, hydrotherapy pool, sauna, steam room, experience showers and a spacious relaxation lounge.

I booked an Elemis facial, which was one of the most relaxing treatments I’ve had in a long time. From the warm welcome at check-in to the skilled therapist, Gemma, who tailored everything to my skin needs, it felt indulgent but never fussy, just genuinely relaxing. My skin felt refreshed and glowing for days afterwards, and the post-treatment herbal tea in the relaxation room gave me an excuse to linger a little longer.

If you’re after a proper Cheshire spa break, Rookery Hall certainly delivers!

Festive atmosphere and seasonal charm

I visited Rookery Hall in December, and the festive touches made the whole experience even more magical. The main staircase was wrapped in garlands, twinkling trees were dotted throughout the lounges, and the scent of pine and spice gave everything a warm, seasonal feel.
