Arriving at The Coach House Cottage: First impressions

The Coach House is a traditional stone cottage with plenty of character, fitting in perfectly with its scenic surroundings. Inside, the cottage is warm and welcoming, with a homely feel and decor that’s both stylish and practical. The living spaces are thoughtfully arranged, with a snug lounge, well-equipped kitchen. The bedroom features some lovely rustic wooden beams and plenty of cosy blankets to keep you warn on wintery evening like the one we arrived on.

The kitchen made it easy to enjoy meals at the cottage, which was really convenient as we didn’t arrive until the evening, and really didn’t fancy venturing out to find a restaurant. Don’t get me wrong, Bakewell offers plenty of options for eating out, but sometimes it’s nice to just enjoy the simple pleasure of a quiet night in, and in such cosy surroundings it’s all the more appealing!

Small details like soft towels and cosy blankets added an extra level of comfort, and the dog-friendly policy means you can bring your furry friend along. All in all I would say The Coach House Cottage is a great setup for couples, or even solo travellers looking for a peaceful getaway.

Where is Bakewell?

Bakewell is a small market town in Derbyshire, right in the heart of the Peak District National Park. It’s surrounded by beautiful countryside, historic landmarks, and plenty of walking and cycling routes. Conveniently located about 25 miles from Sheffield and 30 miles from Manchester, it’s an easy destination for a weekend trip from much of the Midlands or North of England.

How to get to Bakewell

Getting to Bakewell is straightforward. If you’re driving, the A6 provides direct access to the town. For those relying on public transport, regular buses run from nearby towns like Matlock and Chesterfield, both of which are accessible by train. Manchester Airport is also about an hour’s drive away, making it a manageable trip if you’re flying in from further afield.

Things to do in Bakewell

Bakewell is a great place to take things at your own pace. You can enjoy a leisurely wander through its pretty streets, stopping in the independent shops and cafes along the way (The Lavender Tea Rooms are a personal favourite of mine for a coffee and cake) . The Old House Museum is a nice stop for a bit of history, and you’ll definitely want to take a photo at the picturesque Bakewell Bridge.

Foodies shouldn’t miss the chance to try the famous Bakewell pudding – The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop is a popular spot for a taste.

If you’re up for exploring further, Chatsworth House is just a short drive away. This impressive stately home and its gardens are a fantastic day out. However, be sure to book your visit and parking well in advance, especially around Christmas, as it sells out quickly!

Outdoor enthusiasts will love the Monsal Trail, which offers scenic walks and cycling routes for all fitness levels. If you’re making a long weekend of it, The Coach House is an ideal base to return to – somewhere comfortable to put your feet up after a day out in the fresh air!
